Welcome to Version 6

Well version 5 did not last long. Mostly because I have Ideas. BIG ideas. I want to make more then one webcomic. So i have to change the index page so more then one comic can easily be viewed. Infact the Woot Anime comic section is mostly Version 5. 

Fun Fact: Version 6 was 95% complete in February 2006 but was not finished and uploaded until march 2006

Site History

It All started about the middle of 2002 When I first got my credit card and decided I wanted a dot com address. After brain storming I came up with nothing. But someone that went by the username Superman Clock said I should use Woot Anime. I thought it was perfect. And so was born. My first version of the site was horrible and was soon abandoned then in September 2002 I made version 2 of the site. This one was still pointless but it looked better. In November I decided to make Version 3 of the site. When the update happened it was more or less just version 2 with a few small changes.

Version 3 the start of insanity.

When I decided to make a comic I found out that Version 2.5 of the site was not going to work. So on august 20^th 2003 Woot Anime.Com version 3 was launched with the first comic. What I did was take the HTML files from lots of other webcomics and edited them in Microsoft FrontPage. Infact the old index.html was Mega Tokyo’s index file. But I had edited them so much that they did not really look the same anymore. But thinking back it would have been easier wit just make my own from scratch.

Version 4 MAKE IT SMALLER!!!!!!!!

This version of the site continued the Code stealing ways of version 3. But now I was striping the files and all the art work down to as small as possible. I also decided to stop publishing the comics in JPG format and switched to SWF. I did that because 1) SWF’s look a lot better (2 SWF’s are a lot smaller. And (3 I was making the comic in Flash anyway. Plus I could animate parts of the comics. Something I did not start doing until comic 93 despite the fact I was publishing the comics in SWF format since 41.Sadly I had already made 40 comics and I also had lost a few of the FLA files. But I changed most of them. But then I also had to change all the Old comic pages so they had swf’s instead of jpgs. So much work. But in the end Woot anime version 4 was launched in the middle of May 2004.

Version 5 Short lived

It was short lived but I made all the artwork like buttons and background. Improved Character profiles and this info site here is better. And like in with version 4 I made a change to the comic pages. (New buttons and Woot Anime logo) But this time I had to go back and edit 99 html files. (Waaaaaaaaa) Also all the HTML is mine now. All made from scrach and I think it works better and looks better then talking other peoples code and making it look how I want.   

Evolution of the comic.

One thing I knew from the start was that the art in Woot anime would only improve as I did the comic. But when I look back at comic 1 my eyes burn. But things got better. In comic 4 I stopped using solid colors for Woot and Jazz and switched to Gradients for a rounder look. Comic 6 was the first comic were people were wearing clothes But Woot and Jazz would not wear them until comic 17. Starting with comic 27 everyone got mouths and the background art had improved greatly. Now over time I got tired of the curve at with the name of the comic and comic number so with comic 37 I changed to a bar at the top and bottom of the comic this I felt looked better.  Then when making comic 45 I decided that The comic panels tend to bleed into each other with only a thin black line separating each panel. So I added thicker bars between them. And this is how the comic has looked since.
